Model Horse FAQ
Question: What size are the Breyer models?
Answer: Breyers are produced in five sizes. Scaled-to-fit riders and
accessories are available for each size.
Traditional - approximately 12"L x 9"H, a 1/9 to 1/10 scale.
Classic - approximately 9"L x 6"H, a 1/12 scale.
Ponies - approximately 7"L x 6"H.
Paddock Pals - approximately 6"L x 5"H, a 1/24 scale.
Stablemates - approximately 4"L x 3"H, a 1/32 scale.
Question: What are Breyer models made of?
Answer: With the exception of the porcelain sculptures of the Breyer
Gallery, Breyer models are injection molded from durable, engineering grade
cellulose acetate and painted by hand. Traditional models and wildlife are produced
in New Jersey. All others are manufactured off-shore.
Question: Can a broken model be repaired?
Answer: Breyer models made of cellulose acetate can be repaired with
acetone; regular glues will not work. Put a small drop of acetone on each part
and allow to stand for 10-30 seconds. Place the two broken ends together and
hold for one minute. Allow to set for one hour.
Question: When is BreyerFest (BF)?
Answer: Breyer's annual show is held each year at the end of July at
the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY. The three-day event includes a dinner
and auction, live horses, model horse show, workshops, seminars, vendor area
and sightseeing trips to places of interest in the area.
Question: How can I subscribe to "Just About Horses" (JAH)?
Answer: Information regarding subscriptions to the Breyer news magazine
can be found on the back page of the current brochure.
Question: What was the first Breyer ever made?
Answer: The white Western Horse #59 has the distinction of being the
first Breyer model ever made. It was made as part of a clock in 1950.
Question: How can I identify an old Breyer model?
Answer: There are two excellent reference books that have pictures,
descriptions and values for Breyer models made since 1950. Look for "Breyer
Animal Collector's Guide, Second Edition" by Felicia Browell in the Breyer brochure
or "Breyer Molds and Models" by Nancy Young available at Bentley Sales Company.
